Frequently Asked Questions
Up to now, after 5 years, since we started the Illuminated Manuscripts Project, no one customer had any problem with our clip art CDs. Therefore there is not to much to add to this page.
Inserting borders and background images in Word and WordPerfect documents.

We receive questionswere related to inserting images in word processing applications. Here follows the information related to those applications.

How to for Microsoft Word©

In Microsoft Word this is the way:
Insert menu > insert > picture > from file
Find your CD drive file (ex.: D: > ex.: manuscripts_3 > parchemins > parchemin_1)
Select the image you want and click insert or double click the selected file.
The image will open in your word document. Probably will be smaller than the page.
Click on the image, the image get selected and 4 handles (small black squares) appear in the corners.
Bring your cursor on top of any of those black squares, the cursor will change to a double-headed arrow, click and drag to the desired size.

Now the important part:
Double click on the image - the format picture dialog box will open
Click on the layout tab
Select the square image call behind text
In the same window click the tab ADVANCED at the bottom right
DESELECT the selection box: move object with text
SELECT the selection box: allow overlap
Click OK OK
You are ready to type now.

How to for WordPerfect©

Insert menu > Graphic > From file (browse for the right folder and file in the cd) > double click the file name.
Now the image is in your document
When the image is selected it will have HANDLES (little black squares on the sides and corners)
Click on the handles and drag to stretch the image to the desired size.

Now the important part:

Right click on the image
A menu will appear
Click on the menu item WRAP
A selection box will open
In the wrapping type select the item BEHIND THE TEXT
You are now ready to tape or paste text on the page.

ALSO you can insert more then one picture behind the text, this is the way:
Repeat all the operation you did to insert the first picture in the document. But insert a different picture (such as CAPS WMF/A_01.wmf)
The new image normally will end up behind the first picture you inserted and cannot be seen, but you can see the handles.
RIGHT CLICK and the menu will appear
Select ORDER the dialog will offer you the capability of arranging the order of the images TO FRONT, TO BACK etc.......
Use those choices on any of the pictures you inserted to organize the order of the pictures.
BUT REMEMBER THAT ANY PICTURE YOU INSERTED HAS TO BE SENT <BEHIND TEXT> as soon as you insert it.

Read only files and folders.

The changes made in the files we open from the CDs cannot obviously be modified unless we save them in our drive. By definition those files are "read-only" files.
Older operating systems and some application will not change their status. In your file browser right-click the file and from the contest menu select "Properties". Uncheck the "read-only" selection box.
